long time no site!
it's been a while since i've updated my website, so i thought i'd take a minute to get everyone up to speed with what's been going on.
in july of 2007, i handed off ownership of read st tattoo to some friends who i knew could do a better job of running it than i.
once the stress of shop ownership and being a "boss" was removed from my life, i was able to focus on more important stuff, like family, tattooing, art, reading, writing, and machine building! almost immediately, i noticed a significant difference in my "quality of life", and knew i'd made the right move.
i soon left baltimore for europe.
after seven months in spain, (more on that later), mainly just working on machines and spending time with my family, i moved with my wife and kids to portland, oregon, where i'll soon be tattooing at Atlas, with four of my all-time favorite tattooers and friends, Jerry Ware, Dan Gilsdorf, Scott Harrison, and Lewis Hess.
it will be nice to get back into it, especially in a shop full of guys who can all out-draw me on any given day. i really need that kick in the ass to progress, and enjoy what im doing. that shop is a no-suck zone, so i'm a little intimidated, which is a refreshing feeling after having tattooed for 15 years.
it's also nice to live in a city that encourages sustainability, ecological consciousness, and healthy living. quite the opposite of baltimore. (i can actually ride my bike to the tattoo shop with little fear of getting run over!)
until i start taking appointments again, i'll be working on machines, building this site, and trying to get myself back in shape after the spanish "cheese/bread/olive/wine" diet which has seemingly added ten years and easily as many pounds to my life.
so.. about the site...
since im no longer taking direct orders for machines, but i still enjoy building them, it only makes sense that i create a venue with which to make them available. i've slacked on my website long enough, so there will be updates, at the very least, monthly, but my intention is to have new stuff added weekly.
a big part of the site will be the webstore, which is password protected to keep the kitchen magicians from even LOOKING at the goodies.
a big part of the aforementioned webstore will be the limited edition machines which will be released monthly, in small batches, and announced via newletter. if you havent gotten any emailed announcements from me, and would like to, please drop me a line via email by clicking HERE
these will be gone quickly, and once they are gone, that's it.. on to the next batch of cool shit.

"us" is me, my close friend and business associate Alan, (who handles my day to day shit like calling the phone company and sitting on hold for two hours so i can get some work done), Rachael, (who checks emails and orders boxes, and runs errands, and does all sorts of shit so i can get some work done), and good ol Gus, who has been working with me, on and off for about six or seven years now, doing the shitty part of machine making, like soldering coils and blackening frames.

the stuff you'll find in the machine section on this site is long gone, and is just there as kind of a portfolio, and journal of sorts.
we've got it under control now, so i'll be able to put machines in the hands of those who want them, without the six month wait or two hundred dollar phone bills from calling long distance me to ask where your shit is.
if you are still waiting for a machine, and feel as if you've been forgotten, there's a slight chance you were, and i sincerely apologize. my method of "record keeping" prior to my current arrangement, was usually a scrap pf paper stuffed into my pocket with something like "josh. liner. call him."
obviously that's just asking for trouble. clearly i am not looking to fuck anyone over, and im just a scatterbrain. you WILL get your shit, and you WILL be stoked. that's a promise.
